From June 7 to 15, Zico House presents the exhibition Here goes nothing by the photographer Paul Hooven.
Paul Hooven is an American artist. He got a master of Fine Arts 1999 in the University of Massachusetts. He has mainly exhibited his work in the United-States, in Lebanon at Zico House and in Hungary, where he also did an artist residency in 2006.
His work tends to explore notions of alienation, the psychology of an individual, and a sense of lacking control. His interest in photographic based imagery does not derive from a concern for taking pictures of tangible objects or specific locations. Rather he is interested in looking through the camera lens intent on discovering something that is missing, lacking- not expecting to find answers, but to explore questions.
His process involves creating and collecting images, sometimes uncertain as to how he may use them, often combining various types of imagery, utilizing hi-tech and low-tech processes together. The empty spaces, the missing parts, the imperfections echo his interest in the voids, the gaps in an image, rather than what is already there.
