Captured by Chérine Yazbeck in the cemeteries where they lie, these portraits of martyrs feature faces eaten away by rain and time.
On Saturday, February 15, 1997, Beirut Media Production (Zico House) unveiled La Laverie des Martyrs, a photographic exhibition by Chérine Yazbeck accompanied by Breaking Free in Hotels, a musical performance by Biba Sheikh.
Successively art critic and photojournalist, Chérine Yazbeck published numerous magazine articles and books after the civil war. While interested in the Lebanese gastronomic showcase, she was hired by Unesco to anchor Zahle in the Creative Cities Network and published numerous culinary guides. Her latest publications, Beirut Destroy are boxed sets of snapshots of the war (2012 and 2015).
Until February 22, the public was invited to contemplate a series of portraits hanging on a thread like a cloth. Captured by Chérine Yazbeck in the cemeteries where they lie, these portraits of martyrs feature faces eaten away by rain and time. Worn in an adjacent room, Biba Sheikh‘s voice and Mounir Khaouli’s strings fleshed out the atmosphere of the exhibition.
An exhibition organized by Beirut Media Production (Zico House) in Beirut.
