As part of the anniversary of the signing of the Convention against Torture (UNCAT), which became the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the Working Group on the Prevention of Torture (WGTP) organised a screening of Death and the Maiden in Zico House on 26 June at 8pm.

The Working Group for the Prevention of Torture (WGTP) in partnership with the volunteer group Action to Stop and prevent torture – ASAP! organized urban, public and artistic activities throughout June.

Paulina Escobar (Sigourney Weaver) is convinced that the guest (Ben Kingsley) her lawyer husband (Stuart Wilson) brings home is the same man who who kidnapped, tortured and raped her years ago. Holding him captive at gunpoint, she repeatedly attacks him and demands that he confess his crime. Her husband tries to stand by his wife and her claims, but he begins to doubt her story and the claims. She forces her husband to represent the guest in a mock trial that she devises.

The screening of Roman Polanski’s 1994 film Death and the Maiden was followed by a debate moderated by Dr. Rabih Chammay, a psychiatrist working with victims of torture.
