In the framework of the vast artistic programme Tour de Babel, set up during the months of June and July 2004, Samir Khaddaje gathered a team of artists in order to exhibit 4 installations in different cultural establishments of the Beirut capital.
Trained as a draftsman, Samir Khaddaje collaborates in numerous pictorial and theatrical experiments in the four corners of Europe. Like many artists who lived in Beirut during the civil war, he stopped producing. In 1989, he started to invest in collective projects again, with Marc Mourani in particular. Several exhibitions (including Éclats) and installations gradually traveled to France, England and Lebanon.
On n’a pas besoin de plus pour une seule journée was an installation inspired by the texts of Abbas Beydoun, conceived by Wael Khaddaje, Hanane Hajj Ali, Samir Khaddaje, Marc Mourani, Sarmad Louis and Jean-Marc Nahas, exhibited at the Goethe Institut from June 2 to July 16 (3:00 pm to 8:00 pm).
Le jugement avant-dernier was an installation by Wael Khaddaje, Hanane Hajj Ali, Samir Khaddaje, Marc Mourani, Nanine Mourani, Imad Khaddaje and Jean-Marc Nahas, on display at the Centre Culturel Français from 3 June to 16 July (10am-7pm).
Autour de Hamlet Machine was a video installation inspired by Heiner Müller‘s text and conceived by Ahmed El Sayed, Hanane Hajj Ali, Samir Khaddaje, Marc Mourani, Nanine Mourani, Houssam Mouchaymech, Sarmad Louis as well as Moustapha “Zico” Yamout, exhibited at Zico House from 4 June to 16 July (6pm-9pm).
Finally, El Bab was a collection of multi-media artistic expressions by Hanane Hajj Ali, Samir Khaddaje, Marc Mourani, Sarmad Louis, Ayman Baalbaki, Saïd Baalbaki, Hussein Baydoun and Taghrid Darghouth, exhibited at Shams-Theatre in Beirut from 10 to 25 June (5-10pm).
