“Out of space” called forth the discovery of uncommon perspectives of Lebanese daily-life culture, inspired by an outsider unfamiliar with locals’ sub-consciousness.
Donat Caduff was born in Graubünden, Switzerland, in 1982. He graduated in 2008 as a graphic designer at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Afterwards, he worked for different design studios in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. At the same time, he started to develop self-initiated projects in the fields of photography and illustration. The main characteristic of Donat Caduff’s work is that he explores urban environments and their shifting contexts in daily life.
Based on an artist’s exchange program among Switzerland and Lebanon, Swiss-Rumantsch artist Donat Caduff will be showing the work he created during his 3-months stay in Beirut. The title of the exhibition “Ordeifer spazis”, i.e. “Out of space” reflects the idea of a workspace of an artist-in-residence beyond a common environment. It also calls forth the discovery of uncommon perspectives of Lebanese daily-life culture, inspired by an outsider unfamiliar with locals’ sub-consciousness. The show is made up of photographs, drawings and text work. It ran at Zico House in Beirut from January 19 to 22, 2017 and later on in Switzerland.
