Organized and presented by Zico House, Writer’s Block is a puppet show written and performed by Mahmoud Hourani on Wednesday 29 October, 5 November, 12 November 2008 at 8:30pm.
When he was only 19 years old, Mahmoud Hourani started puppetry in the occupied city of Hebron. He continued his puppetry studies in the UK and then returned to Lebanon in 2008 where he established ATPF, The Arab Puppet Theater Foundation, with the aim of raising awareness of humanitarian disasters in the Middle East. This initiative, the first of its kind, provides a vital platform to revive, advance, challenge and rethink puppetry in the Arab world, while encouraging and supporting the professional development of all artists interested in these practices.
Writer’s Block follows the life of a lovesick old writer with writer’s block. Every day his inspiration is distracted by the ordinary talk of the woman he is in love with across the street. His novel recounts the peaceful exile of a young man, echoing his Palestinian condition.
This performance is organized by Zico House (Beirut).
