Noun Ya

As part of a tour of the Lebanese coastline, Zico House hosted on 17 and 18 March 2009 at 8pm the awaited performance of Noun Ya, an international musical duo now exported to all continents. 

In 2004, with a view to playing music across the globe, Yann Pittard tuned the 13 strings of his Arab oud lute with the transverse flute of Naïssam Jalal, with whom he composed and traveled to Japan, Egypt, Mexico, France and Sub-Saharan Africa. 

Their electro-acoustic compositions are the result of a meeting between oriental tradition, classical music and modern jazz. And for good reason: while he was learning the dotara (Bengali mandolin) in Indian villages, she was singing in a brass band in Mali and attending the Damascus’ Grand Institut de musique du Monde Arabe. 

At Zico House, the audience was invited to sway to the airy timbre of Naïssam Jalal. The guitarist’s practice of sampling and the numerous crossings between instruments created a formidable illusion of numbers. 

Noun Ya, Musique du monde Évolutive was a concert organized by Zico House, in partnership with the French Embassy, Nadi Lekol El Nas, Kultur Zntrym and Beit El Fan.
